Sharing and discussing happy play memories.

Learning goal

  • Explore the happy memories people have of their own early play.

Share memories

Invite the group to share some happy memories from their childhoods about playing. The younger they were, the better.

Encourage them to talk in detail about the activity. Ask some open questions:

  • What sort of activity was it?
  • Who else was involved?
  • What kind of communication took place? (For example, talking, singing, shouting, or silence.)
  • What physical activity was involved?
  • What skills were needed?
  • What rules were involved?
  • What materials or equipment were used?
  • What made it particularly enjoyable?
  • What do you think you learned?
  • Will you try it with your children?
