Bird watching is a fun and educational activity for tamariki. It allows them to explore te taiao (the natural world) and observe the behavior of different birds. This activity helps tamariki to develop their observation skills and appreciation for nature.
Why do it?
- To encourage children’s curiosity and help them learn to think.
- To teach them to notice things.
- To help them gain knowledge and skills.
- To help extend their language.
- Being outside is relaxing for us all
How to do it
You’ll need: A sunny day.
- Head out to your garden or local park.
- Keep still and look for manu (birds). Watch them in the trees as they fly and perhaps on the ground around you.
- Kōrero about the names of the manu and the things you might know about them.
Extra: Draw a picture of the manu (bird) you saw in your garden.
