Kōrero pāpāho pāpori Social media transparency statement

How we use social media including what we share, how we engage, how we moderate comments and handle private messages.

How we use social media

We use social media to share parenting information, community stories, learning opportunities and other relevant content.

We may also share posts from others where relevant to our mahi, but this doesn’t mean we endorse them or their views. The same goes for accounts we follow or content we like.

We may use comments and messages on our social media channels to show the impact of Tākai in reports. We’ll remove names and other personal details first.

Community guidelines

Comments are awesome and we encourage kōrero on our social media channels, but remember to respect others.

We want to make sure our social media village is a safe place for everyone. We may moderate, hide or delete comments, including those that:

  • are or appear to be spam or contain a virus
  • are racist, sexist or discriminatory
  • express overtly political views, supporting any particular political party or candidate
  • contain insults or put downs
  • are likely to be seen by others as offensive, inflammatory or provocative (including swearing and obscene or vulgar comments)
  • contain potentially harmful advice
    are inaccurate or misleading
  • breach the Terms of Use of the platform where it’s posted
  • impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or an organisation
  • make a commercial endorsement or promote a product, service or publication
  • break the law or encourage others to do so (this includes defamation,
  • breaching privacy or copyright, and breaching court orders).

We may block users who repeatedly breach our community guidelines.

If you find content on any of our channels that breaks these guidelines, please tell us.

When engaging with Tākai on social media, don’t post any personal information – addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other contact details – either yours or someone else’s. We’ll hide or remove any personal information posted publicly.

If we’re worried someone may be at risk of harm, we may alert the Police or Netsafe. If there’s immediate danger, call 111.

Responding to private messages and comments

We can only answer general questions through social media. We check all private messages and try to respond to them within two working days.

If your message relates to personal information, we may ask you to email us.

We don’t monitor our channels outside normal business hours. Get in touch with PlunketLine for parenting and child health advice any time – free call 0800 933 922.

Moderating comments or blocking users

To keep our social media village safe, we’ll hide or remove any comments that breach our community guidelines. If someone keeps breaching them, we may block them – temporarily or permanently.

Tākai is administered by the Ministry of Social Development (MSD). MSD accepts no liability in any way connected to the use of, or access to, the Tākai social media channels.
